Chiropractor for Pregnancy

Chiropractor for Pregnant Women

Pregnancy is a special time for a woman but it brings with it profound physical, emotional and chemical changes. Working with a chiropractor for pregnancy is a great decision.

Along with the excitement, pregnant women commonly experience low-back pain, pubic pain, hip pain, shoulder tension or headaches due to the major changes required for the growth and delivery of their baby.

Pregnancy hormones cause ligaments of the body to relax in preparation for labour which may make joints more mobile and susceptible to strains and injury. As baby grows your centre of gravity shifts, abdominal muscles stretch and weaken, postural adaptations and muscle fatigue occurs. This can result in changes to the normal function of the spine, pelvis and other joints.

At Complete Health Chiropractic in Chatswood, our chiropractors use gentle techniques, such as Webster’s technique, that are specific to the needs of pregnant women. We also offer lifestyle and exercise advice to support you during this special time.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is a natural and effective way to align the spine and pelvis, reduce pressure on joints, ligaments and muscles and minimise the aches and pains that come with it.

We are here to help you adapt to the changes of pregnancy and enjoy a healthy and comfortable pregnancy. Call us today to get started!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is chiropractic safe?

According to the New Zealand Government’s Commission of Inquiry, chiropractic care is “remarkably safe.” This the result of a conservative approach that avoids invasive procedures or the use of medication however, occasionally there have been some adverse reactions.

Chiropractors are 5-year university trained health professionals and are government registered and regulated. At Complete Health Chiropractic, Chatswood we use thorough testing and state-of-the-art digital technology to determine if chiropractic is right for you.

What makes the cracking or popping sound in some chiropractic adjustments?

With some adjustments you may sometimes hear a clicking or popping sound. This is simply caused by a release of gas that is dissolved in the lubricating fluid of the joint as spinal movement is restored. It can be likened to removing a lid from a fizzy drink.

However, there are many different ways to adjust the spine. Some Chiropractors use a hand-held instrument called an activator, others use pelvic blocks or cranial mobilisation to re-align the body. Specific, gentle techniques are used for adjusting pregnant women, babies, children, seniors.

How long will I need chiropractic care?

At Complete Health Chiropractic, Chatswood we like to offer a holistic approach that encourages prevention and long-term health rather than short-term relief alone but how long you decide to benefit from chiropractic care is always up to you.

As health professionals it is our responsibility to provide you with guidance around chiropractic and lifestyle habits so you can make informed choices about your health. Like regular dental or eye check-ups or screening tests from your doctor, caring for your spine and nervous system is a vital part of maintaining your health and wellbeing.

Our care recommendations depend on a variety of factors including your age, how long you have had your condition, if there are any degenerative changes or other structural issues. Regardless of whether you come to us with pain holding you back or whether you come to us looking to optimise your body function, we are here to help you achieve your health goals.

What happens on my first visit?

The goal of your first visit is to get to know you and understand your unique situation to determine if chiropractic can help you. We use digital technology, thorough testing and x-rays, if clinically required, to assess the health of the spine and nervous system and look to find the underlying cause of your complaint. We aim to identifying the lifestyle factors that may also be contributing to your pain or condition.

Most of the people that come to us are referred by current practice members or GPs however Chiropractors are primary care practitioners with 5 years of university training and a medical referral is not required for consultation. We work collaboratively with other health professional to find the best solution for you.
