2017 Kids Movie Day!


Kids Movie Day is back!

Every year the Complete Health Chiropractic Team organize a Movie Day Outing for children who are a part of our practice! This year Kids Movie Day will be held on Thursday the 13th of July. Everyone will meet at the office and walk across to watch a movie at Hoyt’s Cinemas in the Mandarin Centre. Details of the event will be announced one week out from the day.

If your children would like to be a part of this day please email their full names to admin@completehealthchiro.com.au to reserve their seat! This day requires minimum 20 children to go ahead and Children must be a Practice member.


The Role of Vitamin D & Sunlight

  1. Understand that genetically humans require sunlight exposure for wellness and prevention. Research is clear that sun exposure is healthy, it is sunburns that are unhealthy.
  2. Make sure that on the days that you do not have adequate amounts of sun exposure that you supplement with vitamin D.
  3. The best approach is to expose as much of your skin as possible to the sun FOR A CONTROLLED AMOUNT OF TIME and then to put on protective clothing.  Sunsuits are great for kids, they are cool in the heat, they are great to swim in, and they dry off quickly.
  4. START SLOWLY and gradually increase the amount of time you are in the sun.  Start with 5-10 minute exposures and when you start to darken GRADUALLY increase that time.
  5. When prolonged sun exposure is unavoidable use a safe, natural sunscreens (these are just combinations of healthy natural oils and the minerals zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide). These minerals will stay on the surface of the skin – they protect as a barrier, the oils protect as antioxidants.
  6. Make sure you are sufficient in Omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil. EPA and DHA fatty acids are important components of healthy skin and research shows that these healthy fatty acids afford protection to your skin from the inside out just as the topical application of healthy oils does from the outside in.
  7. AVOID sunscreens that contain the dangerous chemicals that are toxic and are often either carcinogenic, estrogen-mimicking or both. Remember, anything you apply to the skin gets absorbed into the bloodstream!Sunshine for Article - CHC

Annette’s 30-day Yoga Challenge

It all started with an enthusiastic article by my sister-in-law, about how yoga changed her life for the better. Her yoga journey started with someone challenging her to participate in a 30-day yoga challenge.

To be honest, she looked so healthy, calm and even-tempered, that I just had to share in the yoga bliss.

I was directed to the Youtube Channel for Yoga with Adriene – 30 Days of Yoga.

It all starts off innocent enough. I’ve done some yoga before, so I had an idea what was coming. Every day’s challenge is between 10 to 35 minutes. Short challenges follows hard, long challenges, so it gives you some reprieve from aching muscles.

The gist of it is as follows:

Don’t push yourself. Have some fun. Try something new. Try some yoga!

The exercises contain stretches, poses, flows and breathing. And the favourite – Shavasana – resting pose at the end!

The instructor, Adriene, is a funny, goofy girl, who sometimes seems like she’s in the room with me. Just when my head starts to droop, she would tell me to lift and lengthen the neck. Or when I can’t hold the pose any longer, she would tell me: just one more breath.

Funny thing: My husband attempted this challenge with me. We must have been a pretty sight – two people doing awkward, yet syncronated movements in a small room, trying to imitate the presenter’s grace, but failing somewhat, especially where balance poses were involved.

The exercises are never break-neck hard, because you are urged to go at your own pace. You do feel your muscles the next day, though – they tell you loud and clear that you’ve been working them. You grow stronger, though, so it also brings a sense of achievement: Yes, I’m doing my bit for my body by participating in a hip exercise movement! Adriene has thousands of online followers.

Give it a go, your body will thank you for it. You will emerge stronger and upright – your chiropractor won’t complain!

My Marathon Journey

Working as a Chiropractic assistant here at Complete Health Chiropractic for the last 4 or so years I have been lucky and grateful to be surrounded by people who also value living an active and healthier lifestyle naturally. This positive work environment in turn has lead me to set fitness goals, which truly challenged my boundaries. This has put me on the path to achieving things that I didn’t actually think were possible.

I have always had a passion for fitness, keeping active and staying healthy naturally, but I would NEVER have called myself a runner! It was only at the beginning of this year that I summoned the courage to set myself a massive goal and began training towards my first half marathon.

Preparing for my first half marathon I knew there were some things that I definitely had to do from the get go. I started stretching and foam rolling daily. I continued to fuel my body correctly, stayed well hydrated & got checked by one of the friendly chiros at work on a regular basis.

As the race day drew closer I was increasing my running time and distance each week and found I was needing to be checked more frequently. Getting checked ensured my body was managing this additional physical stress as best it could.

Even being really vigilant with my chiropractic care,  around a month out from the run date I started to experience a lot of pain in my feet which caused my calves to tighten. I knew this was a sign my body wasn’t handling the added physical stress as I continued to up the anti with my training as well as it could. I made sure to let my chiropractors know this on my next check up. For those that don’t know…Chiropractors also check feet! I started to get my feet checked up  until the run date and was also given a couple of home exercises to do right after my runs.

I found combining my checkups and home exercises allowed my body to recover faster & in turn trained better. Here is an article I found online which perfectly explains why I think it’s really important to get checked by a Chiropractor especially leading up to your running event (click here).

Looking back at this journey my one piece of advice would be if you love to run or plan on getting into running, consider getting checked by a Chiropractor and find out how it can bring out the best runner in you. To date I have now completed my second half marathon at the Blackmores Sydney running Festival and with the encouragement and care of my Chiropractors have set my next goal to complete a full marathon in 2017.
